This series is made up of material Dyson collected on a variety of companies, products, and topics from 1974 to 2001, with the bulk of the series from 1980 to 1996. The material reflects Dyson’s interest and involvement in the software and computer technology industry, venture capitalism, and internet public policy. Press releases, promotional material, handwritten notes, articles, and company financial information make up the bulk of the material. Dyson organized these files alphabetically by using the subject or company name as the folder title, and that filing system has been retained in our arrangement of material. This series is arranged alphabetically by folder title.
This folder includes items related to 5 companies, all known as ACT:
ACT Financial Systems;
ACT Kindle;
Advanced Computer Techniques;
Applied Computer Techniques;
Applied Creative Technology.
At some point Applied Computer Techniques changed its name to Apricot.
The Applied Creative Technology material includes a SYSTEMIZE! demo on a floppy disk.
ADAPSO is the Association of Data Processing Service Organizations. It is current named the Information Technology Association of America (ITAA). This record originally contained six folders marked ADAPSO SIS I, ADAPSO SIS II, and ADAPSO III to ADAPSO VI. SIS is the ADAPSO Software Industry Section, which in turn is the merger of Microcomputer Software Section and Software Products Section. All of these organizations appear in this file.
This folder consists of an invitation for the opening of MIT Center for Coordination Science, a page of hand-written notes, a press release and brochure for Office Minder (a software package) from Advanced Concepts, Inc., fax from John Landry of Agility Systems containing executive bios of John Landry and Thomas Malone, and a page from MIS Week. The connection of these items to Agility and to one another is not obvious.
